Ghanaian filmmaker and director Lilwin recently revealed the challenges encountered during the production of his latest film, ‘A Country Called Ghana.’ Originally planned with an all-Ghanaian cast, the project later included Nigerian actors to enhance its international appeal, particularly for platforms like Netflix. Lilwin mentioned that two Nigerian actors, Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, also known as ‘Awilo Sharp Sharp,’ were suggested for inclusion.
In an interview with Hitz FM, Lilwin explained that Ramsey Nouah was brought on board as the lead actor after the original cast withdrew just 10 days before filming was scheduled to start. Initially, a “light-skinned Ghanaian actor who is a superstar” was selected for the role, with negotiations and costume preparations already in place.
However, the actor cancelled the agreement upon learning about the involvement of Nigerian actors, citing payment concerns despite prior negotiations and budget considerations. Despite efforts to renegotiate, the Ghanaian actor continued to impose restrictions, ultimately leading to the termination of the deal and the casting of Ramsey Nouah.
Lilwin described the process of bringing Ramsey on board as seamless, with agreements reached and half of the payment secured before he arrives in Ghana for the film collaboration. When asked about the Ghanaian actor causing difficulties, Lilwin mentioned that he would disclose this information after the movie’s premiere.
