A former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. Jehu Appiah, has described the lifting of the imposition of movement as premature and lacks the total input of science.
According to him, the figures given out do not add up if calculations are done.
‘The cases are here with us and there are lots of people still testing and for that matter’ so sees no reason why the president, Nana Akufo-Addo should lift the ban on lockdown.
Dr. Jehu Appiah, a member of the National Democratic Congress ,(NDC) Technical Advisory committee in an interview with Ahotor FM’s political show host Emmanuel Martey, “Alaska De Don” noted that, the lifting is not timely, and could have deep repercussions on the country
He disclosed that, the Ghana Medical Association, is not in support of the lifting of the lockdown as they wrote to the President on their concerns as a front line professionals, to extend the lockdown.
Ghana Health Service, he said, is also complaining that, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo did not consult them prior to the lifting of the ban on the lockdown.
Dr Jehu-Appiah, noted that, the result of recorded the cases in other parts of the country is real since those having the virus are bound to send it to areas that have not yet recorded any case.
In addition, the education on COVID -19 has not reached certain parts of the country so, people still need to be educated especially in the villages.
Adding that, everybody was expecting an extension, so he suspects there was pressure from somewhere, which he could not identify.
‘The figures should be based on number of tests recorded, and not the number of people tested’, he said.
