Lift the curfew to reduce tension – Mamprugu youth tells Interior Minister

Lifting the Bawku curfew could be a crucial step in reducing tension in the community. The current curfew, imposed from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, was put in place in response to escalating violence and chieftaincy clashes that have claimed several lives.

However, as Mr. Iddrisu Shaibu, President of the Mamprugu Youth Association, pointed out, the curfew may not be the most effective solution.

Instead, increasing security measures, particularly on the Bolga-Bawku road, could help ensure the safety of passengers and communities along this route. This approach might be more beneficial in restoring peace and safety in the area.

It’s worth noting that the government has called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to resolve their differences.

Perhaps it’s time for a sounder approach that addresses the root causes of the conflict and promotes dialogue and understanding.
