Director in charge of External and Diaspora affairs of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Frederick Kofi Ameyaw is calling on the parliament select committee to extend an invitation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare to provide assurances regarding his independence.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotoronline.com, he indicated that, is alleged in the leaked tape that the IGP communicated with the former president John Dramani Mahama and he is also related to the former vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur hence he needs the opportunity to clear peoples mind with such allegations.
Mr. Kofi Ameyaw said if an IGP allegedly works against one political party then it will affect the security of the whole country.
In his submission, he said from his own perspective, the current IGP is doing well from all indications since his appointment and must be applauded for that.
“Dressing of police personnel alone currently is a plus to the IGP, how they comport themselves in elections is marvelous, and that indication alone says something good about Dr. George Akuffo Dampare”, he said.
He therefore said there is nothing wrong with the president knowing and crosschecking how things are going in the security sector because he is the commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
