Too often, we wait until our heroes are gone before we show them love.

“Agya Koo Nimo, the king of palm wine music, must be honored while he is alive. His impact on Ghana’s music, culture, and identity cannot be overstated.”

Agya Koo Nimo, born Kwabena Boa-Amponsem, is a revered figure in Ghanaian music, known for popularizing palm wine music.

Palm wine music is characterized by its narrative approach, featuring gentle guitar melodies and a vibrant mix of acoustic guitar paired with lyrics that reflect folklore, traditional Akan proverbs, and the everyday experiences of Ghanaians. Agya Koo Nimo, who has dedicated more than sixty years to music, has become a defining figure of this genre.

Emerging in the early 20th century, palm wine music was originally performed during informal gatherings where locals drank palm wine, exchanged wisdom, and played guitar.
