Law on declaration of asset must be reviewed – Romeo Elikplim Akahoho

The Executive Secretary Chamber for Local governance (CHALOG), Romeo Elikplim Akahoho disclosed that the filing or declaration of asset must be done publicly.

Speaking on Ahotor92.3FM’s morning show ‘Ade Kye MuNsem with Kofi Citizen, he said that, there is a need for amendment of this law to enable the government and it’s citizenry  in the process of accountability. This should be done every year for the purpose of protecting public funds and diminishing corruption in our country.

Cecilia Dapaah’s case should be carefully and critically examined by due legal process of investigation. Moreover, the scene from Adisadel College should not be entertained at all. Housemasters must at least have foreknowledge about what goes on around his domain. In his view, every other person involved from headmaster to the later should step aside and the student in question should not be punished for going through such agony and trauma.

Appearing on the same show was Nii Armah Addy, Lead Fellow, Education & Social Transformation Pillar, Centre for Social Justice (CS), shared his take on Cecilia case, saying he’s in no way accusing her of stealing but he just want the law to work as it should.

I have been trying to get some sort of justifiable reasons to this case, but I have none. There’s a difference between truth and evidence, he said.

I will be happy if this case takes the due process of investigation, for things to unravel.

Supervision must be paramount in the education system so as to avoid such ill circumstances. There should an environmental scanning, he added.

Government has moved away from revising the “free SHS policy to become a failed policy”.

He advised that, old students must be intentional about moral guidance as well as non career guidance and counseling.
