Spanish side UD Las Palmas have officially announced the signing of Ghana international Nicholas Opoku ahead of the 2026/27 football season.
The experienced centre-back joins the Canary Islands outfit on a two-year contract after leaving Turkish Super Lig side Kasımpaşa following the expiration of his deal.
His arrival is expected to strengthen Las Palmas’ defensive options as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new campaign.
Las Palmas confirmed the signing in an official statement, announcing that Opoku will remain at the club until June 30, 2028.
“Nicholas Opoku and UD Las Palmas join paths until June 30, 2028. The central defender, an international with Ghana, arrives at the Gran Canarian team after an extensive career in some of the main European leagues, bringing experience, solidity, and leadership to the defensive line.”
Opoku began his professional career with Ghanaian club Berekum Chelsea before making the move to Tunisia, where he joined Club Africain.
He enjoyed a successful spell with the Tunisian giants, helping them win the Tunisian Cup during the 2017/18 season. His performances subsequently attracted interest from Europe, leading to a move to Italian Serie A side Udinese in 2018.
Although opportunities were limited during his time in Italy, Opoku later revived his career in France with Amiens SC, where he gained valuable experience competing in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
He subsequently moved to Turkey, joining Kasımpaşa and becoming an experienced presence in the Turkish top flight.
Throughout his European career, the Ghanaian defender has established himself as a physically strong and dependable centre-back, with his defensive awareness, tackling ability, recovery pace and composure on the ball among his key attributes.
His extensive experience across the Tunisian, Italian, French and Turkish leagues is expected to prove valuable to Las Palmas as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
At international level, Opoku has represented Ghana and has been part of the Black Stars setup on several occasions, featuring in major international competitions.
His move to Spain represents a fresh chapter in his career and gives him an opportunity to make his mark in Spanish football while continuing to push for a regular place in the Ghana national team.
Opoku will now look to settle quickly at Las Palmas and play a key role as the club targets its objectives for the upcoming season.
