KYEBI — The ancient town of Kyebi in the Eastern Region was filled with mourners, family members, political figures, traditional leaders and sympathisers as the final funeral rites of Okyeame Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo, father of former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, were held at Kyebi Nsutem.
The funeral brought together people from different walks of life to honour the memory of the late Okyeame and to offer support to the bereaved Ofosu-Ampofo family.
The ceremony was characterised by solemn reflection, traditional observances and tributes celebrating the life and legacy of the deceased. Family members, friends, political associates and sympathisers gathered to pay their last respects and share in the family’s grief.
The late Opanin Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo was the father of Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a former National Chairman of the NDC and Political Adviser at the Office of the Vice President.
He was described by his family as a man whose life was defined by integrity, humility, selfless service, wisdom and a deep commitment to his family and community.
In a tribute following his father’s passing, Dr Ofosu-Ampofo described him as “a man of great dignity, wisdom, and quiet strength.”
According to the family, the values and principles of the deceased had a profound influence on his children and the many people who came into contact with him.

His commitment to family, honesty and service, they said, helped shape the character and outlook of his sons and daughters, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
A major feature of the funeral was the strong presence of members and sympathisers of the NDC, who turned out in large numbers to identify with their former national chairman during his period of bereavement.
The gathering demonstrated the bonds of solidarity within the party, as political colleagues, friends and supporters joined Dr Ofosu-Ampofo and his family to mourn the loss of their patriarch.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo also addressed mourners during the funeral, reflecting on his father’s life, values and enduring influence on the family.
His remarks formed part of the tributes that celebrated the deceased not only as a father but also as a respected family and community figure.
Beyond the grief and solemnity surrounding the occasion, the funeral provided an opportunity for relatives, friends and community members to celebrate the life of a man whose influence extended beyond his immediate family.
Traditional rites, tributes and moments of remembrance underscored the significance of the occasion as the family brought the funeral ceremonies to a close.
For Dr Ofosu-Ampofo and his family, the final funeral rites marked the end of a period of mourning and the beginning of a new chapter in preserving the memory and legacy of their departed patriarch.
The gathering in Kyebi ultimately reflected both grief and gratitude — grief over the loss of a beloved father and family head, and gratitude for the life he lived, the values he imparted and the memories he left behind.
May the soul of Okyeame Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo rest in perfect peace.
