Kwame A Plus Calls for Extended Leadership Terms, Applauds Mahama’s Development Focus

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Asare Kwame Obeng widely known as Kwame A Plus, has publicly applauded President John Mahama for his steadfast dedication to advancing Ghana’s national development. In a departure from norms, where government projects often stall with changes in leadership, President Mahama has demonstrated a focus on continuity and progress, ensuring that initiatives begun by previous administrations are not abandoned but pushed to completion.

Kwame A Plus highlighted the ongoing work on critical infrastructure such as the motorway and the Winneba roads. These projects, initiated by the prior government, were left incomplete upon their exit from office. Since assuming power, President Mahama has prioritized these developments, showing a leadership style that elevates national interest over political rivalry. His efforts signal a desire to foster steady progress that benefits the entire country rather than allowing development momentum to falter with political shifts.

In reflecting on President Mahama’s decision to decline pursuing a third term in office, Kwame A Plus expressed some bewilderment. He suggested that Ghana’s current four-year presidential term limit restricts long-term planning and true democratic development. Citing examples from Dubai and China, where longer leadership terms have enabled accelerated progress, he argued that extending presidential terms could better serve African nations by allowing administrations to build and realize sustainable growth strategies.

Kwame A Plus also raised a critical point about the quality of democracy practiced across the continent. He noted that genuine democracy should involve building consensus and fostering cooperation, rather than frequent leadership changes that disrupt continuity. According to him, the current short election cycles limit the ability of governments to implement comprehensive policies that require time to mature, weakening Africa’s developmental potential.

Through his comments, Kwame A Plus reinforces the need for Ghana and other African countries to rethink democratic frameworks and leadership tenures to enable more effective governance. Meanwhile, he commended President Mahama for leading by example one who values project completion and national progress as fundamental pillars of his administration. This approach, he insists, can lay the foundation for a more prosperous and unified Ghana.
