Dasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Omanhene of Kwahu, has called for people in the area to let cool heads prevail as the search for lasting solution to the destruction of crop farms and water bodies by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle intensified.
He added that taking the law into their own hands – fighting, killing and maiming was a road to nowhere.
He called for all to accept to cooperate and work together to find a workable and permanent solution to the problem.
Dasebre was speaking at a grand durbar held at Abene, the seat of the traditional council, to celebrate the Kwahu Akwasidai-kese.
He said the council had started the registration of all cattle in the Kwahu area to aid the construction of ranches to hold the animals.
The Omanhene urged the people to overcome their differences and unite behind the development of the area.
Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, the Eastern Regional Minister, asked cattle owners and their herdsmen to do everything to stop the animals from destroying food crop farms – ruin other farmers’ investment.
It was the way forward to prevent tension and conflict.
He used the occasion to encourage the people to give strong push to the government’s one-district one-factory programme.
They should pool resources to establish factories to process and added value to raw materials produced in the area.
Nana Adwoa Gyenfua III, the Queen of the Traditional Area, advised all to prioritize child education – to make sure that every child was not only enrolled in school but retained.
