Ghanaian Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of manipulating his intellectual property and vocals to falsely suggest his endorsement of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 election campaign.
The artist, who had previously collaborated with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2008, expressed frustration over the unauthorized use of his work. According to Kwabena Kwabena, the NPP reworked and altered material from his 2008 project to create the impression that he supported their current candidate.
“They took something I did for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2008, went to the studio, doctored it, and edited it to make it seem like I had done it in 2024 to endorse their candidate, Dr. Bawumia. That was very wrong,” he stated.
The musician condemned the party’s actions, describing them as unprofessional and harmful to his reputation. He emphasized the need for proper consent and respect for artists’ work.
