Kurt Okraku Challenges Calls for Black Stars Budget Disclosure, Cites GFA’s Private Status

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has weighed in on the ongoing discussion surrounding the transparency of the Black Stars’ budget, insisting he is comfortable with making the figures public.

Speaking in an interview with the media,  Okraku defended the GFA’s position while raising concerns about what he described as selective demands for financial disclosure.

“I’m comfortable about making the Black Stars budget public, but why are we not asking Asaase Radio to make their budgets public? GFA is a private entity too,” Okraku stated.

His comments come amid renewed calls from sections of the public and stakeholders for greater transparency in the management of funds related to the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Okraku’s remarks highlight a broader debate about accountability, particularly regarding institutions perceived to operate in the public interest despite their private status. While critics argue that the Black Stars’ use of state resources justifies public scrutiny, the GFA president maintained that the association’s private nature must also be acknowledged.

The issue of budget transparency has remained a recurring topic in Ghanaian football, often surfacing during major tournaments and qualification campaigns.

Okraku’s latest comments are expected to further fuel discussions about financial governance and public accountability within Ghana football.
