Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has urged the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to help ensure justice in the case involving the late Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley.
The appeal was made during a meeting between the Ghana Football Association leadership and the Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra, where discussions centred on safety, security, and accountability within Ghanaian football.
Nana Pooley was fatally injured during a Ghana Premier League match in early 2025 — a tragic incident that sent shockwaves through the football fraternity and reignited concerns over supporter safety at match venues. More than a year on, the case remains before the courts.
Okraku underscored the importance of bringing closure to the matter, stressing that justice for the deceased and his family would strengthen public confidence in football governance and security arrangements.
He further called on the Police Service to continue supporting the judicial process to ensure a timely, transparent, and fair resolution, noting that safeguarding lives at football matches is a shared responsibility between the FA and law enforcement authorities.
In response, the IGP reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining security at football events and supporting due process in all matters relating to the safety of players, officials, and supporters.
