The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has reassured victims of the recent fire in Kumasi that they will not lose their shops after the site’s reclamation.
Mr. Ahmed-Rufai Afarahim, Deputy Director General of NADMO, emphasized that the shops would be returned to their rightful owners once the debris is cleared and the site is deemed safe for reconstruction.
This assurance comes after rumors circulated on social media, claiming that original shop owners would be denied their spaces after the reclamation exercise.
Mr. Afarahim urged occupants to disregard these rumors, stating that NADMO’s primary focus is to support affected individuals and facilitate the recovery process.
The Ghana National Fire Service received praise for their efforts in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures. NADMO’s response to the disaster is guided by its mandate to manage disasters, develop community response capacities, and raise public awareness.
In similar situations, NADMO has provided relief to flood victims, conducted disaster risk reduction exercises, and collaborated with other organizations to enhance disaster preparedness and response.
