Ghana West Ham rising star Mohammed Kudus is currently experiencing some darkness in his football career at both club and country.
The left-footed winger is currently under a five-game suspension in the Premier League after misconduct for his heated altercation between players in the 82nd minute of West Ham’s 4-1 defeat at Tottenham on Oct. 19 when he fouled Spurs defender Micky van de Ven picking a straight red card.
Kudus first pushed Van de Ven in the face before doing the same to Pape Matar Sarr.
The embittered winger has also been fined to pay £60,000 by the Premier League’s Regulatory Commission.
Kudus,24, has already missed games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Everton for West and will continue to be unavailable after the international break against Newcastle away and West Ham’s home game to Arsenal.
Ghana coach Otto Addo handed him the captaincy for the 2025 AFCON double header against Sudan last October but failed to live up to the billing including missing just the line goal chance in Accra in that international break.
He was down in mentality and frustrated after the break and his club coach Julien Lopetegui remarked Kudus has carried his national team frustration to the club.
“His behaviour was not good, he knows that. He’s not happy, we’re not happy. It can’t happen. I hope it’s the last time we suffer this”- Lopetegui.
“I think that he brings his frustration with his national team too because they lost and drew their matches and that was bad”, he said.
The Spanish coach had already said Kudus was not a team player and that’s a demeaning and derogatory statement.
In Ghana’s last two winless AFCON qualifying games, Mohammed Kudus failed to make an impact against Angola and Niger where he missed from the spot in the 90+5’ to pull parity for depleted and toothless Black Stars.
His coach Otto Addo rushed too quickly to console him after the final whistle against Niger on Monday.
Yes, Kudus is not smiling and not happy at the same time at both club and country and the question remains how will he pick up these pieces together, build up a strong skin to this worrying situation?
Hopefully, he recovers stronger.
