The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, along with the Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo, Oklepeme Nuer Annorbaa Sasraku II, and their subjects, have expressed their unwavering support for the Eastern Regional Minister-Designate, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.
During a courtesy visit by Awatey to the chiefs in Krobo land ahead of her vetting on Friday, January 17, 2025, the traditional leaders commended President John Dramani Mahama for his recognition of the Krobo people’s contributions to national development.
They cited the past appointment of Seth Terkper as Finance Minister as an example, describing Awatey’s nomination as a continuation of this acknowledgement.
“This is a time for celebration and I am personally happy that President Mahama appointed our daughter to represent him in the Eastern region….We will support her all the way to the vetting…So she will know that she has support. She must not be afraid of anything,” Nene Sakite II stated.
In response, Awatey expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to address critical regional challenges, including poor road infrastructure, illegal mining, youth unemployment, and economic inequalities affecting women.
She assured the chiefs and people of her commitment to serving with humility and driving development across the region.
The visit underlines the importance of collaboration between traditional authorities and government officials in addressing the developmental needs of the Eastern Region.
