Asante Kotoko Executive Board Chairman James Osei Brown has held a landmark corporate meeting with Accra Hearts of Oak Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration and transforming the governance and commercial landscape of Ghanaian football.
The high-level engagement, which comes shortly after the appointment of Kotoko’s new three-member Executive Board on 27 February 2026, marks a significant step towards greater cooperation between Ghana’s two most successful football clubs.
The initiative seeks to harness the influence and experience of both institutions to address long-standing structural and commercial challenges facing the Ghana Premier League.
Moving beyond their traditional rivalry, the two clubs are embracing a more collaborative approach focused on improving football administration, enhancing commercial opportunities, and promoting sustainable growth within the domestic game.
The meeting also comes at an important period for both clubs following the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. Hearts of Oak finished third on the league table with 54 points, while Asante Kotoko ended the campaign in eighth place with 49 points.
As part of efforts to return to the top, Kotoko recently appointed experienced South African coach Eric Tinkler to lead the club’s technical rebuilding, making strong administrative leadership equally crucial to the club’s ambitions.
The partnership is expected to build on previous successful collaborations between the two clubs, including their joint petition to the Ghana Football Association in February 2025, which called for improved stadium safety measures following incidents of crowd violence.
Among the key areas identified for future cooperation are attracting joint commercial sponsorships, developing unified matchday safety protocols, and supporting the establishment of an Autonomous Premier League to strengthen the governance and commercial appeal of Ghana’s top-flight competition.
Despite the growing collaboration at board level, both clubs stressed that their partnership will have no impact on the intense rivalry that has defined Ghanaian football for decades, insisting that the fierce competition on the pitch will remain as strong as ever.
