The family of Constance Nyarko, popularly known in Koforidua as Yaa Yaa, has confirmed her death following last Saturday February 14,2026 deadly terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso.
According to relatives, Yaa Yaa’s sister—who survived the attack—was airlifted on Tuesday night to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, alongside another injured victim for urgent medical care.
Speaking to family members from her hospital bed, the injured sister recounted that she, Yaa Yaa, and their driver took cover inside their truck when the armed attackers struck. However, the gunmen reportedly fired several rounds into the vehicle before setting it on fire.
Despite sustaining gunshot wounds and suffering severe burns, she managed to escape. Sadly, Yaa Yaa was allegedly burnt beyond recognition in the blaze.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Kofi, brother of Yaa Yaa and Awura Afua, another Ghanaian victim of the same attack.
By Wednesday, sympathizers had begun trooping to the family house in Koforidua to console the grieving relatives.
Their mother, Yaa Agyeiwaa, is said to be devastated, describing Yaa Yaa as the breadwinner of the family, whose death has left them shattered and hopeless.
At least eight Ghanaian traders, drivers, and labourers are reported to have died in the Islamist insurgent attack in the northern part of Burkina Faso.
Reports indicate the attackers allegedly separated the men from the women before opening fire on the victims.
Out of the 18 Ghanaian traders involved in the incident:
Seven (7) were killed instantly, three (3) men and one (1) woman sustained injuries and seven (7) women escaped unhurt
The deceased victims were buried in Burkina Faso on Monday, while the injured survivors remain on admission as others continue receiving treatment.
The incident has renewed public concerns over the safety of Ghanaian traders who frequently travel across borders to conduct business, especially in volatile regions affected by terrorism and insurgency.
