Kofi Adams Defends Withholding Black Stars Budget Amid Public Calls for Transparency
Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has justified the decision to keep the Black Stars’ budget for their World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar under wraps. This move comes despite President John Mahama’s assurance that national team budgets would be disclosed.
Adams explained that revealing the budget before the matches could have created unnecessary distractions. “People were asking me to disclose the budget, but I wondered what it would achieve for the team ahead of the games,” he stated. Adams emphasized the need to weigh every situation before making a decision, prioritizing the team’s focus on the upcoming matches.
Despite initial secrecy, Adams reassured the public that the budget for both games would eventually be disclosed. “There’s nothing to hide, but we must acknowledge that taking care of the national team is expensive, especially since most players come from Europe,” he noted.
The Black Stars will be seeking crucial points in their next round of games against Chad and Mali as they strive to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With the team’s fate hanging in the balance, Adams’ decision to prioritize focus over transparency has sparked debate among fans and critics alike
