Kofi Adams Calls for Civic Action as NPP Faces Criticism Over Corruption and Mismanagement

Ghanaians must remain vigilant and steadfast in the face of deceit and falsehoods. The strategies used by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to gain power are now clear: the government and its team seem to be focused on looting national resources, with new scandals emerging daily.

Ghanaians should seize this opportunity to fulfill their civic duty by checking their names in the ongoing voter register exhibition. It is crucial to exercise their franchise and vote the NPP out of office to restore the Ghana we aspire to have under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Hon. Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Beum, made this statement during the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. He emphasized that the government’s approach of using funds to develop productive sectors and create jobs for unemployed youth is missing from the NPP’s national agenda. Instead, the government is plagued by corruption and misplaced priorities, as evidenced by the recent issues surrounding the Africa Games, which have exacerbated economic hardships in the country.

In related news, revelations from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) highlight a discrepancy in payments. Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram and a PAC member, alleged that workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) were paid 100 Ghana Cedis per day as a stipend, while foreign staff contracted by GBC for coverage of the 13th African Games received 1,000 Ghana Cedis per day.

He made these allegations during an interview, addressing the fallout from Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif’s statement to the PAC that GBC had been paid $3 million to cover the African Games.

Additionally, Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has released a letter providing a breakdown of the financial transactions between the Ministry and GBC related to the coverage of the 13th African Games. The Games, held in Accra from March 8 to March 23, saw events hosted at the newly built Borteyman Sports Complex and the renovated Legon Stadium. The Sports Minister testified before the PAC that the Ministry had paid over $3 million to GBC for this coverage. In response to Professor Amin Alhassan’s rebuttal, the Sports Ministry has released a letter detailing the financial dealings between the two parties.
