Kofi Adams Backs Carlos Queiroz to Lead Black Stars into 2027 AFCON Qualifiers

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has reiterated his support for Carlos Queiroz to remain in charge of the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

According to the Minister, with the qualifiers set to begin in September, there is insufficient time to appoint a new head coach and allow him to adequately prepare the team.

He noted that the Black Stars will have only August to get ready before opening their qualifying campaign with a difficult away fixture against Côte d’Ivoire, a match that has traditionally been one of Ghana’s toughest tests.

Kofi Adams argued that this is not the ideal time to bring in a new coach who would require time to assess the squad, build relationships with the players, and implement a new tactical approach.

He also commended Carlos Queiroz for his deliberate and methodical approach, stating that the coach has demonstrated tactical awareness by carefully analysing the team’s performances, identifying what has worked well, and addressing areas that require improvement.

The Sports Minister expressed confidence that the Black Stars can build on their recent performances and secure positive results, even if by narrow margins. He believes maintaining continuity under Carlos Queiroz will enhance the team’s game management, improve consistency, and strengthen Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.
