A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), affiliated with Unity Hall (Conti), is recovering in hospital after being stabbed during a violent altercation at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) “Thank You” tour event in the Ashanti Region.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday at the Bantama Pentecost Church, where the event was organized as part of the NPP’s ongoing efforts to express gratitude to party faithful. The student, a member of Unity Hall’s renowned Jama Group, was part of a team hired by Kennedy Agyapong’s camp to energize the gathering with vibrant chants and music.
How the Violence Erupted
Eyewitnesses recount that tensions began when a wealthy benefactor, reportedly a close associate of Kennedy Agyapong, distributed cash to the Jama group as a token of appreciation. However, moments later, a group of heavily-built men, believed to be NPP operatives, allegedly stormed the venue and seized the money.
This brazen act sparked a heated confrontation between the Jama group and the aggressors. Chaos erupted as gunshots rang out, sending attendees scrambling for safety. Amidst the turmoil, one of the Jama group members was stabbed multiple times.
