It was a night of celebration, emotion, and music royalty as Gregory Bortey Newman, popularly known as King Promise, emerged as the Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), held at the Grand Arena in Accra.
The silky-voiced crooner, known for b like “Terminator”, “Commando”, and “Slow Down”, finally ascended to the most coveted throne in Ghanaian music after years of consistent hard work, near-misses, and undeniable talent.
King Promise’s victory did not come overnight. He has been a staple in TGMA nominations since his debut in the mainstream music scene around 2017.
Over the years, he has bagged multiple nominations in key categories such as Best Male Vocalist, Afrobeats Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Album of the Year, earning him a reputation as one of the industry’s most consistent acts.
Despite several nominations in previous years, the Artiste of the Year crown remained elusive — until now.
This year’s win marks a major milestone in King Promise’s career and confirms what fans and critics have long believed: he is a powerhouse in Ghana’s music industry. He walked onto the stage to loud cheers, dedicating the award to his fans, team, and family when he was he was mentioned as the winner.
“This goes out to every young person—let my story be your example. Don’t stop chasing your dreams. Never give up. Keep pushing forward. This means the world to me,” he said during his acceptance speech.
In addition to the Artiste of the Year award, King Promise also swept other categories on the night, solidifying his dominance in the industry for the 2024/2025 music year.
From being a nominee with high hopes to standing tall as the undisputed Artiste of the Year, King Promise’s TGMA journey is a masterclass in patience, growth, and artistry.
