Kevin-Prince Boateng Reveals Lionel Messi’s Unconventional Training Habits

Former Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng has shared a fascinating insight into Lionel Messi’s dressing room behavior during their time together at Barcelona.

Boateng, who played alongside Messi during his loan spell at the Spanish giants in the 2018/19 season, described the Argentine’s approach to training as a “terrible example” for young players.

Boateng revealed that Messi would often arrive at training sessions just minutes before kickoff, having spent the preceding time on his phone or receiving a massage.

This relaxed attitude, Boateng claimed, had a negative influence on several young players at the club, including Malcom and Dembele.

Boateng suggested that Messi’s unconventional training habits led to a lack of preparation among the younger players, resulting in injuries during games.

“That’s what the young players did in Barcelona: Malcom, Dembele, they looked at him and they didn’t train so then going to the game, they got injured,” Boateng explained.

Despite his unorthodox approach to training, Messi’s brilliance on the pitch is undeniable. During his time at Barcelona, he led the team to eight league titles in 11 years and clinched the Ballon d’Or eight times.

Boateng acknowledged that Messi is an exception, stating, “He’s the only one in the world that can do that.”

Boateng’s revelation serves as a cautionary tale for young players who may be tempted to emulate Messi’s laid-back approach to training.

While Messi’s natural talent and dedication may allow him to succeed despite his unconventional methods, Boateng’s warning emphasizes the importance of hard work and preparation for aspiring footballers.
