Kasoa NPP and NDC Clash: Dampare needs to take a strong public stance to instill fear in politicians – Security Analyst

Security Analyst Richard Kumador has urged Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to adopt a more forceful public presence to prevent incidents like the recent clash in Kasoa.

Mr. Kumador believes that a more assertive stance from the IGP will deter young politicians from resorting to violence to challenge the system.

“Dampare must be aggressive in the public space to put fear into young politicians who wants to use violence to challenge the system” he said.

The recent conflict at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa left four people injured. Due to the severity of his injuries, one individual was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The violence erupted around 5 am between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to witnesses, the clash began over a disagreement about the queuing of voters who were trying to transfer their votes to the constituency.

In an interview on Ahotor FM’s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem’ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Kumador criticized the Electoral Commission for allowing the voter transfer in Kasoa, calling it a known hotspot for political tensions.

“There shouldn’t be any voter transfer in Kasoa because that place has been a hotspot”.

During the altercation, Ato Koomson, son of incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, was stabbed in the chest and subsequently rushed to the 37 Military Hospital. Mr. Kumador suggested that Ato Koomson might have been specifically targeted due to his past actions in the area.

“Hawa Koomson’s son is a straight target because of the things he has done in the past and people are using that to target him”.

Additionally, three NDC members were injured and admitted to the Kasoa Polyclinic.
