Ghana’s Black Galaxies coach, Kassim Mingle, has sparked controversy by excluding Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare from the squad for the upcoming international friendly against South Africa.
Mingle justified the decision, stating that Asare already has a spot in the Black Stars and has proven himself at that level.
“There’s no reason to keep calling Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a spot in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level. There are many goalkeepers in the local league who also deserve the opportunity to prove themselves. It doesn’t make sense to invite him to the Galaxies again just to ‘justify’ himself,” Mingle added.
Asare has been in good form for Hearts of Oak, keeping five clean sheets in eight league appearances this season. He made his Black Stars debut in March 2025, keeping clean sheets against Chad and Madagascar.
