Hon. Christian Dela Afetor, the Assemblymember for the Kaiser electoral area in Tema West, led a clean-up exercise with his community as part of the Operation Clean Your Frontage initiative by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
The Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, zoom lion Ghana Limited and other stakeholders in the area participated in the cleaning.
In an interview with Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotor FM, Hon. Afetor emphasized that the exercise was crucial because the community was overwhelmed with filth, and as the assemblyman, he felt it was his duty to assist his electorate.
He also mentioned that the clean-up efforts would continue regularly, with exercises being held every three months to help maintain cleanliness in the area.
Hon. Afetor advocated for the reintroduction of the town council, explaining that it would enforce sanitation laws and prevent people from littering indiscriminately.
He expressed his determination to petition the Tema West municipal assembly for the return of the town council, even if his fellow assembly members do not support it.
He recalled that when the town council was active, people were more disciplined because they knew they would face sanctions for improper waste disposal.
