The family of the late veteran musician K.K. Kabobo paid a visit to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to formally share details about K.K. Kabobo’s upcoming funeral.
The family, led by K.K. Kabobo’s wife and other relatives, along with representatives from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), informed Mr. Mahama that the funeral ceremonies would take place on the 15th and 16th of June, 2024.
During the visit, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, along with Pozo Hays and other musicians, accompanied K.K. Kabobo’s wife.
K.K. Kabobo, also known as Kwabena Kwakye Kabobo, had been battling liver disease before passing away at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on March 14th.
A fundraising campaign had been initiated some weeks earlier to assist K.K. Kabobo with his medical expenses. Former President John Dramani Mahama and popular singer Wendy Shay expressed their solidarity by making donations of GHC5,000 and GHC10,000, respectively.
K.K. Kabobo was not only a renowned highlife musician but also a member of the Professional Musicians Association of Ghana (PROMAG) and served on the copyright management team board. He rose to fame with his popular song “Onyame Ahu” and formed his first band, Explosive Jets, in 1978.
Before pursuing his music career, K.K. Kabobo worked as a pupil teacher for two years. The family, along with MUSIGA, has scheduled K.K. Kabobo’s funeral for June 15th and 16th, 2024.
