‘Jurassic Park’ Star Sir Sam Neill Dies at 78

Veteran New Zealand actor Sir Sam Neill, best known for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park film franchise, has died at the age of 78.

His family confirmed that Neill died suddenly on Monday in Sydney, Australia. In a statement shared on social media, they described his passing as “sudden and unexpected” and said he was surrounded by his family. The family also noted that he had remained cancer-free following his public battle with blood cancer. No official cause of death has been disclosed.

Sir Sam Neill enjoyed a distinguished acting career spanning more than five decades, appearing in over 50 films and numerous television productions. He rose to international prominence through his role as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (1993) and later reprised the character in subsequent Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films. His acclaimed filmography also includes The Piano, The Hunt for Red October, Dead Calm, Event Horizon and the television series Peaky Blinders.

Following news of his passing, tributes poured in from fellow actors, filmmakers and fans around the world, who praised his remarkable talent, warmth and enduring contribution to the film industry. Director Steven Spielberg, actress Laura Dern and several of his longtime colleagues were among those who honoured his legacy.
