Former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Hamidu Akamba, has alleged that the increasing electricity bills in Ghana are due to a scheme involving Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. He claims that payments for electricity bills pass through Bawumia, who takes a percentage because he owns the new meters and holds a majority stake in their operations.
Akamba criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, asserting that their appointments are strategically aimed at winning the 2024 elections by any means necessary. He suggested that many institutions under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo indicate something suspicious about the party’s tactics. He urged the public to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process by remaining at polling stations to ensure that the NDC flagbearer and its parliamentary candidates are declared winners before leaving the centers.
He emphasized that the NDC needs a majority in Parliament to “reset” Ghana.
In response to comments made by Asante-Akim South Member of Parliament, Asante Boateng, regarding galamsey issues and the NPP’s potential loss of votes, Akamba contended that the NPP government is a disgrace in its handling of galamsey activities. He accused NPP members of heavily participating in illegal mining, which allows them to make statements without facing arrest or scrutiny. He called for accountability, stating that the comments made by NPP MPs warrant investigation and possible arrest.
