The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has terminated its contract with Joseph Laumann as Black Stars assistant coach after just ten months of his appointment, AhotorSports can confirm.
This forms part of measures to reshape the technical department of the Black Stars after Otto Addo suggested for more experience hands to assist him after presiding Ghana’s worse AFCON qualifying round for the first time in 20 years.
The Moroccan-born German coach was announced in March 2024 as part of the newly formed Black Stars backroom staff, serving as a deputy coach to Otto Addo. However, his contract has been abrogated by the West African nation after failing to qualify for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to be staged in Morocco later this year.
Meanwhile, former right-back John Paintsil who has been heavily criticized for his worth as Black Stars has been retained and will continue to work with Otto Addo as they resume the 2026 FIFA Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March.
The Black Stars failed to make it to the AFCON for the first time since 2004 after finishing at the bottom of the 2025 AFCON qualification group, where Angola and Sudan secured the tickets to the tournament.
