John Mahama pledges to create a new district from Sisala East.

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to create an additional district in the Sisala East area of the Upper West Region if he is elected in the December 7 elections.

This promise was made in response to a request from the chiefs and residents during his campaign tour in the region, where he outlined his vision ahead of the 2024 elections.

Mahama acknowledged the concerns raised by the community, noting that the current Sisala East District is vast, making some areas distant and remote from the district capital.

He assured the people that with the population census already completed, his next administration would have the opportunity to review and demarcate districts and constituencies, making the creation of a new district in Sisala East feasible.

He urged the chiefs and local leaders to unite and submit a formal petition to the Ministry of Local Government, addressing it to the president.

Mahama emphasized that the establishment of another district would promote development in the area and address the challenges posed by the district’s large size.
