John Dumelo Visits Dry-Season Tomato Farmers in Bawku West

Ghanaian actor and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has shared his experience with dry-season tomato farmers in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region following a visit to the farming community.

In a social media post, Dumelo disclosed that he spent the previous day with the farmers, who had just completed transplanting their tomato seedlings as they prepare for the next stage of production.

According to him, the farmers are hopeful of harvesting tomatoes in large quantities between February and April 2027.

The visit highlights the importance of dry-season farming in Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly in communities where farmers depend on irrigation and careful crop management to sustain production during periods of limited rainfall.

Tomato farming remains an important source of livelihood for many farmers across the country, providing income for farming households while contributing to the supply of fresh produce to local markets.

Dumelo’s engagement with the farmers comes at a time when Ghana continues to focus on strengthening local agricultural production and reducing challenges associated with the supply of essential food crops.

If the anticipated harvest is successful, the farmers in Bawku West could contribute significantly to the availability of tomatoes in markets during the expected harvesting period.

Sharing the update, Dumelo expressed hope that the farmers would record a bumper harvest in the coming months.

His post has also drawn attention to the efforts of farmers who continue to invest their time and resources in food production, with the hope of achieving good yields and improving their livelihoods.

The expected February-to-April harvest will be an important period for the farmers as they look forward to the rewards of their work in the fields.
