The 2025 elections for the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) which was originally scheduled for January 15, 2025 was finally held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the association’s secretariat located at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Chairmanship position was contested by Mr. John Kofi Ansah and Mr. Isaac Wilberforce Koomson and the latter garnered 96 votes, significantly outpacing the former who received 35 votes after the EC’S declaration.
Ansah, a former GHALCA Vice-Chairman will take over the next four years from former Ashgold’s Chief Executive Officer, Cudjo Fianoo who served between 2016 and 2024.
Mr. Isaac Wilberforce Koomson has now suffered a third defeat in three attempts for the chairmanship role after previously defeats to Cudjo Fianoo in 2016 and 2020.
The election saw participation from 134 delegates, including 36 from the Premier League, 48 from Division One, 30 from Regional Football Associations (RFAs), and 20 from the Women’s Premier League.
What has John Ansah said?
“My vision is to build a better future for all members by promoting responsible leadership, transparency, and integrity. I think there is some big challenge on bringing ourselves [football people] together. I think I want to drive on that. If you look at my flyer, I said that I want to be a productive leader, and that means that I want to bring everybody on board. I’ll solicit a lot of advice from my senior and even my own colleagues to be able to lift GHALCA from where it was,” he said.
Former Ghana Football Association vice president, Fred Pappoe was at the venue and shared with Joysports reporters chanced by AhotorSports:
“The previous administration did a lot, but we need to improve on that and then work on the negatives so that we can address some of these mistakes. We’re going to run an open-door policy where every idea that comes on board will be collated and put together to work effectively to lift GHALCA up once again. Leading an association is not an easy task, but I believe they’re all up to the task. Listening to their pledges and their manifesto promises, I’d want to believe they understand the enormity of the task. I wish them well in their endeavor,”
His agenda focuses on prioritizing club welfare and enhancing collaboration within the association to create an inclusive and prosperous environment”.
In the Vice Chairmanship contest, Madam Phyllis Marku successfully retained her position, pulling 94 votes, defeating Nana Amankwaa Kwakye who garnered just 34. She becomes the first female vice chairperson for the association.
