Jamiat Al-Hidayat Girls SHS Gets Modern ICT Training Centre

Students of Jamiat Al-Hidayat Girls Senior High School are set to benefit from improved digital education following the inauguration of a modern ICT training centre by Nassco Feeding Minds in partnership with Deloitte.

The facility, aimed at promoting digital literacy and technology skills among girls and young people in the Upper West Region, forms part of the organisation’s long-term efforts to equip students with practical ICT knowledge required in today’s digital world.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, the Co-founder and Executive Director of Nassco Feeding Minds, Banasco Seidu Nuhu, said the organisation had spent the past 12 years contributing to digital education across various communities.

According to him, the newly established centre is the first ICT training facility the organisation has set up in a girls’ senior high school.

“We are particularly excited about this computer centre because it is the very first training centre we have established in a girls’ senior high school,” he stated.

Mr. Nuhu stressed that girls’ education remains critical to national development and commended the school management, teachers, and Parent-Teacher Association for their support.

He further disclosed that the organisation had collaborated with Cisco to install internet security systems designed to block inappropriate online content and ensure safe internet access for students.

“We are very conscious about the challenges and some of the hazards the internet can pose to young people, and we have put in enough measures to protect them,” he added.

He noted that although digital literacy has become compulsory in schools, government alone cannot provide all the necessary infrastructure and resources, making partnerships with private organisations and development institutions essential.

Mr. Nuhu also explained that the ICT centres are being transformed into digital skills hubs through the NASCOTech initiative, where young people can pursue careers in software engineering and access remote work opportunities.

“It is one thing providing the facility and another thing achieving the intended results,” he said, adding that the organisation would continue supporting students through coding clubs, ICT competitions, and Olympiads to nurture their interest in technology.

He further revealed that the centre would not only benefit students of the school but also serve young people within the Wa Municipality through digital training programmes, including a six-month coding programme open to the public.

In a speech read on behalf of the Wa Municipal Director of Education, Sophia Dimah Nandzo described the initiative as transformational and one that had created new opportunities for girls.

“What was once an ordinary space has now become a modern ICT centre, thanks to the generous partnership between Deloitte and Nassco Feeding Minds,” the statement noted.

She encouraged students to take advantage of the facility to learn coding, conduct research, and compete globally, while urging school authorities to ensure every student graduates with digital literacy skills.

The Municipal Education Directorate also pledged its support toward maintaining the facility for future generations.

The Girls Prefect of the school, Afina Patricia Dadzie, expressed appreciation to the donors, saying the computers would significantly improve practical ICT lessons.

“Though you may be taught in class, you may not fully understand how it works. But with this facility, students can become computer literate and more advanced,” she said.

She assured the organisation and its partners that students would make good use of the laptops and the ICT centre.
