Forward Prince Osei Owusu says representing Ghana national football team at a major international tournament would be the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
The CF Montréal captain made his debut for Ghana in November last year during the Kirin Cup, and is expected to be part of the squad for upcoming international friendlies against Germany national football team and Austria national football team later this month.
The matches are expected to play a key role in Otto Addo’s assessment of players as he continues to shape his squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaSoccernet, Owusu said wearing the Black Stars jersey at the World Cup would be a special milestone in his career.
“It would be a dream come true for me and for every player. If you can represent your country and your roots, it means everything,” he said.
The striker also reflected on the emotional connection he feels with Ghana, revealing he spent the recent festive period in the country with his family.
“It was crazy when I made my debut last season. This year I was also in Ghana from December to New Year. I celebrated the New Year there with my family and it was a very special moment,” he added.
Owusu is determined to justify his place in the national team setup during the upcoming international break as he aims to convince the technical team of his value.
“I will just keep performing well, try to help the team and also CF Montréal. Hopefully I can earn the honour of another call-up,” he said.
The 29-year-old finished last season as Montréal’s top scorer with 13 goals in Major League Soccer. He has already opened his account for the new campaign, scoring in Sunday’s emphatic victory over the New York Red Bulls.
Before switching allegiance to Ghana, Owusu represented Germany national under-21 football team at youth level. However, the striker said the decision to play for the country of his roots ultimately felt natural.
“To be honest, it was a long thought for me to play for my roots. It doesn’t matter where you were born; I think you should represent the roots of your family. For me it was clear that I wanted to represent Ghana and make my family proud,” he concluded.
