The minister of state at the ministry of Local government, decentralization and rural development who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, Osei Bonsu Amoah, has dismissed the assertion that, the president Akufo Addo sacked some 24 MMDCEs because they do not support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has sacked 24 District Chief Executives with immediate effect.
A letter dated Friday, 2 February 2024 said the President’s decision was in accordance with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).
Some of the sacked DCEs are Daniel Owuredu of Nkoranza North, Elizabeth Kaaki Mann of Ga East, Patrick Kumor of Weija-Gbawe, Alhaji Abdulai Adams of Pru East and Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah of Nzema East.
The reason for the action remains unclear, it is however alleged that the dismissed MMDCEs did not campaign for Dr. Bawumia during the flagbearership race.
But in an interview with the media, O.B Amoah said these claims are baseless.
