Accra, Ghana – In a surprising turn of events, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo’s vetting session made headlines for its remarkable brevity.
The process barely extended beyond her introductory remarks, with not a single question posed to her by the panel.
Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, known for his thorough questioning on the Appointments Committee, shocked many when he refrained from asking the Greater Accra Regional Minister-Designate any questions.
Present to support Hon. Ocloo were chiefs from the Shai Osudoku Traditional Area, former ministers, and the two most recent Greater Accra Regional Ministers, Henry Quartey and Titus Glover.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin described the delegation backing the Minister-Designate as an “army of wise men.”
“It appears that you have an army of wise men supporting you. You’ve conducted yourself well in Parliament. You are a respected colleague,” he remarked.
The Minority Leader explained that Hon. Ocloo’s commendable conduct in Parliament rendered further questioning unnecessary.
“I don’t see why Honorable Doyoe is so close to you as if there’s going to be a problem. I have some few questions for you, which may take some two hours, but don’t panic. Don’t panic. By your good conduct, I’m sure we’ll reserve those questions for another day,” he stated.
He concluded by congratulating her, saying: “Congratulations. I don’t have the power to discharge you, but I’m sure the chairman is going to discharge you.”
