Inusah Fuseini Calls on Asutifi North MP to Apologize Over Alleged Interference in Anti-Galamsey Operation

Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini, has called on the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, to take responsibility for his actions and publicly apologize to Ghanaians.

Mr. Fuseini’s remarks follow reports alleging that the Asutifi North MP interfered in an anti-illegal mining operation, influencing individuals to attack the Director of Operations at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and ten accompanying soldiers. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Ahafo Hwediem in the Ahafo Region. The MP is also accused of ordering the release of suspects arrested during the operation.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Fuseini condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as a “wrong exercise of indiscretion.” He emphasized that the MP had no justification for his involvement in the operation and should have acted more responsibly as a public official.

> “The MP had no business being there at all,” Fuseini asserted. “There are countless Ghanaians, including residents of Hwediem, who oppose illegal mining. If it is about numbers or political support, why not stand with those who are law-abiding? As a politician, your duty is to uphold the law, not to undermine it.”

The former legislator further highlighted the devastating impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, on Ghana’s environment and communities. He stressed that tackling the menace requires collective national effort and a firm commitment from all stakeholders, especially lawmakers.

> “Illegal mining continues to destroy our water bodies, forests, and livelihoods,” he said. “This level of impunity must stop. Every responsible leader must be part of the solution, not the problem.”
