Interior Minister Set to Address Parliament Over Addison Home Search

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak is scheduled to appear before Parliament on Tuesday, March 25, to provide details regarding the controversial search at the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

The minister is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation, including the issuance of the search warrant and the actions of the national security operatives involved. Key questions about the legality and conduct of the operatives during the operation have fueled calls for accountability.

However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has indicated that the minister will be unavailable on the scheduled date. He assured the House that a new date for his appearance will be announced soon.

Ayariga also contested the characterization of the operation as a “raid.” He argued that the incident was a lawful search carried out under the authority of a valid search warrant.

“To set the record straight, the term ‘raid’ is inappropriate. Law enforcement officers conducted a lawful search in accordance with established procedures. Referring to it as a raid is misleading and should be corrected in the official records,” he stated.

The incident, which occurred at dawn on March 20 at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge residence involved heavily armed national security operatives. Reports indicate that the officers disabled CCTV cameras, searched the premises, and seized two vehicles, which were later returned.

The operation has drawn widespread criticism, with many questioning whether due process was followed and if the actions of the operatives were justified. Calls for greater transparency and adherence to legal protocols have intensified in the wake of the event, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting the minister’s explanations.
