INSTALL CCTV CAMERAS TO CURB EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES – DR APAAK TO WAEC.

Deputy ranking member on education committee of Parliament Dr Clement Apaak is calling on the West Africa Examination Council WAEC to install cctv cameras at the various examination centers across the country to help curb examination malpractices.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school and private candidates will start from Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st October 2022.

A press release issued by the WAEC stated that two groups of BECE candidates (school and private) would for the first time, take the examination at the same time.

This is due to the consistently low entries for the BECE private candidates over the year.

The statement said that 552,276 candidates from 18,501 schools would take the BECE for school candidates at 2,023 centres throughout the country.

It said the entry figure of 276,988 male and 275,288 females is the number of candidates that registered for this year’s BECE, representing 3.48 per cent lesser than the 2021 entry figure of 572,167.

According to the statement, the private BECE candidates are 1,132, made up of 634 males and 498 females.

This is 6.09percent higher than the 2021 figure of 1,067, it stated.

The examination would be taken at 15 selected centres, mainly in the regional capitals.

The council assured the public that all appropriate measures have been put in place to safeguard test security and ensure that the examination is conducted successfully.

The council urged all examination officials (supervisors, invigilators, distributors) to comply with the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination and refrain from being facilitators of malpractice.
The call comes at the back of WAEC assurances that it has put in place measures to prevent leakages in the ongoing BECE expect to end on Friday.
But Dr Clement Apaak believes the practice can be delt with through technology.
