A massive fire has engulfed a section of the Adum Market in Kumasi’s Central Business District, destroying several shops and properties worth thousands of cedis.
Firefighters are battling to bring the raging inferno under control, but restricted access due to obstructive structures has severely hampered their efforts.
The blaze, which started in the early hours of the morning, spread rapidly, causing extensive losses for business owners.
The affected section of the market, a bustling hub for second-hand clothing vendors, seamstresses, and watch repairers, has suffered significant damage, leaving many traders devastated.
Speaking to Ahotor News, Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander ACFO2 Peter Tetteh expressed concern over the challenges faced by firefighters.
“The structures in the market have made it difficult for our teams to navigate and effectively combat the fire. These obstructions have delayed our response and allowed the flames to spread further,” he explained.
