Hon. Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has expressed shock and disappointment over Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s tenure.
Adongo questioned how Ofori-Atta could convincingly assure investors of Ghana’s economic stability in February 2022, securing a $3 billion investment, only to write to the same investors seven to eight months later, admitting the country couldn’t pay its debts.
Adongo’s criticism highlights the drastic turn Ghana’s economy took under Ofori-Atta’s leadership, which ultimately led to a debt restructuring and an IMF bailout.
The MP’s comments also echo widespread concerns about Ofori-Atta’s handling of the economy, including allegations of conflict of interest and mismanagement.
It’s worth noting that Adongo has been vocal about his disdain for Ofori-Atta’s tenure, even going as far as calling him the country’s “doom” during his time in office.
