Tems expresses excitement about connecting with Lil Wayne in a recent appearance on The Cruz Show, Tems shared her passion for rap music and reflected on her childhood experiences of imitating Lil Wayne.
Her journey into the world of hip-hop began at an early age, largely influenced by her older brother. “My brother introduced me to rap because he listened to a lot of it,” she recalled. “That’s how I got my influences.”
Tems reminisced about pretending to be Lil Wayne when she was younger, mentioning tracks like ‘Mrs. Officer’, ‘Mr. Carter’, ‘Comfortable’, and ‘Hustle Music’ as some of her top favorites.
When asked if she has a rap voice, the Oscar-nominated singer acknowledged that she does, although she hesitated to showcase it. “It feels a little cringy,” she joked about her attempts to embody a rapper.
Tems revealed that she has yet to meet Lil Wayne but is very much looking forward to it, hoping it happens soon.
Her love for hip-hop shines through in her debut album, ‘Born In The Wild’, which features a rap track titled ‘T Unit’ and a collaboration with Grammy-winning artist J Cole on ‘Free Fall’.
She has also teamed up with several rappers, including Future, on the Grammy-winning hit ‘Wait For U’, featuring Drake, who enlisted her for ‘Fountain’ from his album ‘Certified Lover Boy’.
