Illegal mining: Akufo Addo should’ve resigned by now – John Mahama.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed strong criticism of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s handling of illegal mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey,” in Ghana.

Mahama argued that President Akufo-Addo, by his own words, should have resigned for failing to live up to his promise of putting his presidency on the line to fight galamsey.

According to Mahama, despite the president’s strong stance, key members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), including party executives, have been involved in illegal mining activities.

Mahama further claimed that the community mining initiative introduced by the government is being controlled by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and NPP officials, worsening the situation.

He highlighted the destructive impact of galamsey on Ghana’s water bodies, lands, and forests, urging the president to take decisive action.

Mahama called for accountability, stating that the evidence of environmental damage is visible across the country.
