IGP Yohuno Lifts Restriction on Police Communication, Urges PROs to Uphold Professionalism

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has called on all Regional Police Public Relations Officers (PROs) to maintain the highest level of professionalism in their communications to protect and uphold the image of the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking at a workshop for regional PROs, the IGP announced the lifting of previous restrictions on police communication, emphasizing that while officers now have more freedom to engage with the public and the media, their statements must remain accurate, responsible, and in line with the ethics of the service.

He also urged PROs to be proactive in countering misinformation, engaging communities effectively, and ensuring transparency in police operations.

The IGP stressed that with the evolving nature of media and public engagement, police communication must adapt to remain credible and authoritative.

The lifting of communication restrictions is expected to enhance the police service’s ability to keep the public informed while reinforcing accountability and professionalism in all public engagements.
