The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector in recognition of his bravery and role in saving lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
The fire incident occurred on August 26, 2026, when several shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station were engulfed in flames, resulting in damage to properties.
Inspector Atubra, who was the first police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately took action to assist people trapped in the affected area. He helped evacuate victims to safety while efforts were being made to contain the fire and prevent further loss of lives and property.
His actions were highly commended by eyewitnesses, who praised him for his courage, quick response and commitment to protecting lives and property. His conduct subsequently led to a recommendation for his promotion.
The promotion, according to the Police Administration, underscores its commitment to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional courage, dedication and commitment to duty.
The Police Administration said the recognition is also intended to encourage other officers to demonstrate professionalism, bravery and a strong sense of duty, particularly during emergencies where timely intervention can make the difference between life and death.
The promotion of Inspector Atubra therefore serves as recognition of his actions during the Aboso fire and highlights the importance of police officers responding promptly to emergencies and prioritising the protection of lives and property.
