Ignore NPP’s Mosquito-Like Demonstrations and Focus on Economy – Abraham Koomson Tells NDC

TEMA, Ghana, 5th November: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain focused on reviving the economy rather than allowing what he describes as propaganda and unnecessary demonstrations by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to distract them.

He has also expressed optimism about the upcoming 2027 Budget Statement, following assurances by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson that the government will outline measures to translate Ghana’s economic recovery into jobs, higher incomes and business growth.

Dr Forson, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, indicated that the next phase of the country’s economic recovery must deliver tangible improvements in the living conditions of Ghanaians.

The Finance Minister is expected to present the 2027 Budget Statement to Parliament on Thursday, November 12, 2026.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme on Thursday, November 6, Abraham Koomson urged the NDC government not to be distracted by the opposition’s activities, which he likened to mosquitoes that could easily be dealt with using mosquito spray.

He further called on the government to intensify efforts under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, insisting that individuals accused of looting state resources must be made to account for their actions.

According to him, some individuals facing serious questions over the alleged misappropriation of public funds are becoming desperate and could engage in activities capable of undermining the government’s work if they are not held accountable.

“ORAL should be seen to be working fully because criminals who are involved in looting the country should be dealt with. Most of them have issues and they have serious issues to answer, and they are desperate. So, you don’t leave them. If you are not careful, they will do things that will affect the government,” he said.

Drawing comparisons with developments in the United States, Mr Koomson cited President Donald Trump’s approach to governance, arguing that a lack of sufficient focus on domestic economic concerns in favour of other things could have political consequences.

He said the NDC must learn from such developments by prioritising economic recovery and ensuring that Ghanaians experience tangible improvements in their livelihoods.

Mr Koomson said he was encouraged by Dr Forson’s commitment to announce positive economic measures in the November 12 budget, expressing hope that the government’s promises would translate into meaningful economic relief for citizens.
