Lawyer and activist Oliver Baker-Vormawor has clarified that his commitment to activism is not driven by financial gain.
Speaking in an interview, Vormawor stated that if he were interested in money, he would have stayed with his former position at the United Nations. Instead, his motivation stems from a desire to see a better Ghana.
Unlike some individuals who anticipate political appointments with a change in government, Vormawor emphasized that he is not seeking such opportunities but is focused on advocating for positive change in Ghana.
He acknowledged the challenges in fighting illegal mining, or galamsey, and expressed his determination to see the process through to protect the country’s natural resources.
Vormawor mentioned that he has friends in politics, like Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, yet he has chosen a different path, one rooted in activism.
Reflecting on his recent arrest during an anti-galamsey protest, Vormawor reaffirmed his commitment to the cause, highlighting that he is undeterred by obstacles and will continue to fight against galamsey to preserve Ghana’s environment.
