Dr. Anthony Sorkpah, Communication Officer of NDC Insight, stated that if the Electoral Commission agrees to conduct a forensic audit, the entire country will see how biased they are in their operations.
In an interview with Ahotor News, Dr. Sorkpah emphasized that the Electoral Commission has no other option but to correct everything in the voter register.
He believes the EC will choose this route to avoid exposing their biases and corruption, opting instead to rectify the mistakes and release a final register for voting.
He expressed concern that if a forensic audit were to take place, the public would uncover all the illegal activities and intentions of the EC.
If the Commission corrects the register in private without public oversight, it may not have the same impact as publishing the forensic audit results.
Dr. Sorkpah highlighted the EC’s plan for an online exhibition where Ghanaians can check their information.
He argued that this is a strategy to deceive the public, as those who log in and find their names missing may be told it is a technical fault. He cautioned that the current plan seems to be to delay action until it is too late to intervene.
If the EC is confident that they are not hiding anything and that there are no wrongdoings, then a forensic audit should not be a concern.
He stated that the Electoral Commission is supposed to be an independent body, but the staff are predominantly from the NPP and are working to undermine the NDC’s chances of winning power.
He stressed that demonstrations alone are insufficient. When the NDC goes to the EC’s office and police prevent them from submitting petitions, they ensure they persist, standing firm to hold the EC accountable.
